Experimental percussionist Saskia Shearer and visual artist Belinda Yee present a new performance work for DRAWSpace Gallery, Gadigal land (Newtown). The performance is the result of a collaborative research phase, into the potential of percussive sound to be used as a means of drawing. The work explores the ways repetition, tempo, tone, modulation and duration are attributes of both percussive sound and the drawn line.Saskia Shearer is an early career musician who uses percussion as a tool for experimentation, a means of pushing creative boundaries and to challenge musical conventions. As co-founder of the Avant-Garde musical group Chaos Collective, she has performed in a number of prestigious venues, including the Chau Chak Wing Museum. She has also performed with the Micheal Askill ensemble at Phoenix Central Park.Belinda Yee is an interdisciplinary visual artist working primarily in drawing, video and installation. In her practice, Yee explores processes for decolonising time and the inherent bias associated with new data-driven technologies. Belinda is co-founder of DRAWSpace Gallery and has been a finalist in several prestigious prizes, including the Ravenswood Australian Women's Art Prize, the National Works on Paper Prize and the Fisher Ghost Award at the Campbelltown Art Centre. This collaboration with Shearer, extends an ongoing body of research into the potentialities of drawing through other media. This event has limited capacity, so please secure your spot by registering for a FREE ticket below.
