HOMILY

HOMILY

from $29.00

12 - 16 Sep | 1 hour Emerging Artist Sharehouse - The Office
SHOW IS RATED: M15+

HOMILY is a GOD HATES (insert overused slur) sign on fire. It’s sneaking one too many sips of the communion wine and an explosive, drag middle-finger to religious oppression.

HOMILY is an explosive mix of spoken word poetry and drag performance, cooked up as a fiery reflection on a youth spent in the Catholic Church. Enter Lady Diana as THE PREACHER, a repressed, creature of the dark who goes on an emotionally intensive journey of self-discovery. It reckons with how religion interacts with the psyche of a young person, and the different ways in which internalised homophobia and religious conditioning impact the queer identity. Written and performed by emerging theatre-maker, drag artist and social activist, El Waddingham, in the same traditional form of a Catholic homily. It is deeply joyful and deeply painful. And absolutely, unapologetically queer.
